In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) has implemented the World Day to Combat Viral Hepatitis at the date July 28 to alert the public about the importance of early diagnosis, vaccination and treatment.
To record the date, the Samaritano Hospital of São Paulo held on 28, 29 and July 30, from 7 am to 18h, the Hepatitis C test for free. The collection is fast and the result is ready in minutes.
“Because it is a silent disease, early diagnosis is important to prevent future complications such as cirrhosis and cancer,” explains Dr. Catia Rejânia, hepatologist Samaritano Hospital Gastroenterology Center of São Paulo .
According to figures released by WHO, one third of the world population has hepatitis. “Viral hepatitis is one of the largest health problems, and kill twice more than AIDS. Our challenge is to diagnose the presence of virus and contain the disease before the damage it causes to the liver. The most serious liver diseases are caused by hepatitis C, however, only 5% of sufferers are diagnosed. Our challenge is to diagnose and it is simple! Only a screening test results in two minutes, “says Humberto Silva, President of ABPH.
